More Liebster Love

Since writing my original Liebster Award post a few months ago, I have received a few nominations since. I was a rude bitch to those who nominated me courteous to you guys and didn’t answer their questions here in order to try and keep things fresh. However, with all the new faces showing up to enter the Blossoming Ancient competiton, I thought it would be a great time to post my response to Azeroth Mommy’s nomination.

1. Why did you start blogging?

Originally I had dreams of becoming the Australian version of IRL Jasmine – an amazing content creator who I have admired for quite a while. However, once I started Neri Approves! and got a bit of momentum happening, I realised that I what I really wanted to do was to create a fantastic community for gamer parents, which is how Mama Needs Mana came to be.

2. If you could trade shoes with your spouse/significant other for one whole day, would you? Why?

When my son was younger, I would have said yes in a heartbeat. Now? Not so much. I realise that I have a pretty sweet deal going on. That and I would be an awful, awful Network Administrator!

3.Do you have a YouTube channel? Why or why not?

I do! You can find my Youtube channel here, but sadly it hasn’t been updated for a very long time. Not for a lack of wanting to, though! We just have such unstable internet here, and I seem to find it hard to come up with good video topics now that I’m not a hard-core World of Warcraft player.

4. What age gap do you think is perfect between children? Why?

I’ve heard many people argue that closer is better because they’ll be “friends”, but I just imagine the kind of fights that would happen and my ovaries shrivel up and die. Nope. Nope. Nope. Do not want.

There is a four year age gap between my brother and I, and there will be a five year age gap between Liam and number two when it arrives in August. It worked for my mum and dad, and I think it will work quite nicely for our little family, too.

5. Did you have a hard time transitioning from working to stay at home parent? What were new challenges for you?

At first I thought I was living the dream. Ha ha, suckers are stuck at work while I just potter around doing whatever I want! And then baby actually arrived and we moved half way across the country to a place where the waiting list for child care was two years long! Things started to go downhill from there. You can read a bit more about how I dealt with that kind of isolation (Spoiler: I didn’t) here and here.

6.If you had a whole weekend to just yourself and spouse/significant other, how would you spend it?

Oh, god. The sky is the limit! Depending on how much cash we had lying around, it would vary from a weekend of bingeing on video games, a nice dinner out, or we would sneak off to the city to catch an AFL game.

7.What is your favorite social media outlet and why? ( Yes I stole this from my nominee’s, nominee.)

Hmm, tough one. From a blogger perspective, Twitter is definitely my favourite for finding good articles (As well as promoting my own!) and meeting random people with interests similar to my own. From a purely fun perspective? Well Pinterest wins that hands down. I could get lost for hours on that site!

8. How do you juggle parenting/ working/ blogging?

Badly. Parenting is my number one priority, obviously, but I find I am awful when it comes to finding that sweet, sweet balance that other successful bloggers and business owners have. If I could just stick to my to-do list and not tunnel vision or get disheartened when things are slow, then I honestly believe I would be in a much better position than I am in today.

Good thing I’m not about to make things even harder by having a baby. Oh, wait… :P

9. How do you choose topics to blog about?

This answer is very similar to the one above, sadly. Much like balancing work/life/blogging, I choose subjects poorly as well, which is quite a feat when you consider just how broad my category selection is!

I think the problem is that I cover such a broad range of subjects that sometimes I get… lost. Then I get disheartened because I can’t come up with anything that inspires me to write a kick-ass article about and then the blog sits here unloved for a few weeks.

Generally I do try to keep a balance between gaming posts and parenting posts, with the occasional random topic thrown in for variety. Now if I could just find a balance between them all and post regularly…

10.  What are your favorite topics to blog about? Why?

I have really been enjoying writing about my pregnancy lately, mostly because it’s not something I talk about much in real life. Of course, there’s not really much I can say that most of the “mommy-sphere” has covered already, so I’ve been restraining myself from writing 40 billion posts and scaring off my lovely, non-pregnant readers ;)

Thanks again to Azeroth Mommy, and all the other lovely bloggers who have sent nominations my way! I really appreciate it <3
