Reading back on my resolutions for 2015, I actually feel really proud of myself. Not because I smashed all of my goals out of the park (I’m pretty sure I failed them all) but because 2015 ended up looking much different than I thought it was going to.
It’s for that reason alone that I’m going to write some resolutions down for 2016. Now I can look back on this post at the start of 2017 and then laugh and laugh and laugh about how I thought the year would look!
Graduate
I took a leap of faith mid last year and enrolled myself in a Professional Writing and Editing course. I have until December 1, 2016 to complete it, and as of right now I have handed in a whopping five assignments.
If I want to pass, or even pretend to call myself a professional, I need to be a lot more disciplined. That means cutting back on time sinks like Netflix and Facebook, and setting myself strict study nights.
Mama needs a career, and that means she needs to get good at being an adult.
Reach Legendary in Hearthstone
My goal last year was to reach Rank 15, and I did that within a few short months. However, I’ve stagnated a bit and I haven’t really climbed much higher. I would love to start streaming again, but no-one wants to watch an old lady play a children’s card game poorly, so I need to take it to the next level.
Of course, reaching legendary cannot clash with graduating, so I’ll probably have to continue using ‘cancer’ decks like this Overload Aggro Shaman list. I honestly feel like playing face decks is making me dumber, but my time is too precious for Dragon Priest.
Attend Playgroups
I still hate socialising in situations where I don’t know people, but my 16 month old daughter absolutely loves going to playgroup. I keep making these lame excuses to not attend, but I am determined to break that cycle in 2016.
Mum never took me to anything like that when I was growing up for pretty much the exact same reasons I don’t like going, but I do not want my kids growing up being socially awkward wallflowers.
That means faking it ’til I make it.
If 2015 was good for anything, it was giving me a strong sense of not caring about what other people think. My kids are awesome, and they deserve to have fun and a chance develop the life skills that I’m still working on myself!
Continue my involvement with Australian eSports
I really don’t seem to talk about this much here, but 2015 was the year of eSports in this household. I started running local Hearthstone events, and my husband found himself shoutcasting Australian and New Zealand Heroes of the Storm tournaments. They started as small things, but they’re now a serious passion for both of us, and this year is set to be a big one!
I am in the middle of organising a marquee event as a part of our city’s Australia Day celebrations; and between his podcast, shoutcasting and the community website we run, Disconcur barely has any time to play Heroes of the Storm because he is too busy working on strengthening the local scene.
I am definitely not in the spotlight as much as Disco, but I intend on continuing to support him and the Heroes of the Storm scene as a whole in 2016. And then who knows, maybe later this year (After I graduate!) I’ll be running a super epic Australian Hearthstone tournament of my own?
Other obligatory things that I feel compelled to include here include:
- Losing weight
- Not talking like gutter trash
- Blogging more
- Procrastinating less
Hopefully those last few work out better this year than they did last year
Did you set yourself any goals for 2016? I’d love to hear them in the comments below!
